Strategic Planning
Strategic Planning is the process of defining direction or desired future state and making investment decisions to pursue this future state. Various business analysis techniques can be used in strategic planning, including SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) and PEST analysis (Political, Economic, Social, and Technological analysis).Strategic Plans developed as a result of this process are used as guidance to define supporting departmental operating plans.
Strategic Planning deals three basic questions:
- What do we do?
- For whom do we do it
- How do we excel?
The Business Plan will help align the IT organization with the overall mission, goals and objectives of the parent organization. It describes what the Information Technology business unit should be doing in terms of services provided.
The IT Strategic Technology Plan describes the future state of the technical infrastructure needed to implement and support those services as effectively and efficiently as possible. It describes how the IT organization will do what it needs to do in terms of services provided.
